Project Description | Alliance served as the prime architect and coordinated a team of expert designers to prepare design documents for an 81,760 sq. ft. addition and renovation of 103,968 sq. ft. at the Bossier Parish Courthouse in Benton, Louisiana. The project included the coordination of architects, acoustical consultants, security consultants, civil engineers, communication engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers and landscape architects. The space is a high volume public use facility which incorporates lobbies, corridors, courtrooms, assembly space, office suites, kitchen, vending area and public restrooms. The finishes have been designed for durability as well as appeal for the high volume of users in the facility. Way finding and information strategies were prominent criteria guiding the design process. Public circulation will be critical to the appeal of the space. Operational and technology changes will occur over the life of the building, therefore, maximum flexibility has been designed to accommodate future changes. The exterior imagery of the new enlarged facility will present a whole new face to the community. Large planes of glass will open up the interior spaces to the outside and present an image of openness. |
The existing building
will receive the same glass treatment inserted in the current precast
panels which will be removed. By situating the addition to the
west of the current building, this new structure will become the most
visually dominant element from the most common direction of approach.
Great care was given to the design of the lobby and Police Jury Hearing Room. These elements are placed in front of the five-story courtroom structure to provide them with dominance and create an open and inviting approach to the building for citizens. The Police Jury room is envisioned as a two-story cylindrical space that radiates outward from the jurys dais. At ground level, this space will open to the lobby and courtyard with a curving wall of glass. This will not only fill the room with light but, at night when many meetings occur, illuminate the space from outside. |
